Implementing regulation (EU) 2020\/2087<\/a><\/strong>, published in the OJEU, confirms the non-renewal of the approval of mancozeb<\/strong>. Member States had given a favourable opinion at the Standing Committee on Plants (Phytopharmaceuticals \u2013 Legislation section) meeting on 22\/23 October.<\/p>\n\n

This substance is approved for use on many crops, including grapevines, cereals, fruit and vegetables. France currently has just over 90 plant protection products containing mancozeb.<\/p>\n\n

EFSA has classified mancozeb as toxic for reproduction, category 1B, and as an endocrine disruptor.<\/p>\n\n

Marketing authorisations<\/strong> containing mancozeb<\/strong> must be withdrawn by 4 July 2021 at the latest<\/strong>. Grace periods<\/strong> are granted until 4 January 2022<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n

The MRLs for mancozeb are covered by the MRLs set for dithiocarbamates, which also include maneb, metiram, propineb, thiram and ziram, expressed as carbon disulphide (CS2). MRLs cannot be lowered individually for mancozeb without affecting the other substances included in the dithiocarbamate group. Dithiocarbamate MRLs must be reviewed as a whole, since some substances are approved and others are not, while also taking into account other additional sources of CS2 (endogenous sources). Due to the complexity of this reassessment, the MRL review process could take longer than expected, according to the European Commission.<\/p>\n\n

Phytocontrol laboratory supports you in the specific analysis of dithiocarbamates as CS2<\/strong> in accordance with European regulations for products of plant origin, under COFRAC accreditation<\/strong>. We have also developed an innovative method, unique in France<\/strong>, that determines whether the presence of CS2 is of endogenous or exogenous origin by identifying and quantifying three main families of dithiocarbamates<\/strong> (dimethyldithiocarbamates, ethylenebisdithiocarbamates, propylenebisdithiocarbamates) in products of plant origin, under COFRAC accreditation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n
