EFSA has found that for most crops, bees are at high risk due to the use of these insecticides in plant protection products.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In Europe, <strong>4<\/strong> neonicotinoid substances are currently <strong>banned<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Imidacloprid<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Clothianidin<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Thiacloprid<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Thiamethoxam<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In France, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legifrance.gouv.fr\/jorf\/id\/JORFTEXT000033016237\/\">2016 biodiversity law<\/a>, since <strong>1 September 2018<\/strong>, the use of products containing neonicotinoids and seeds treated with these products has been banned for uses not covered by a ministerial derogation. Derogations from the ban could be granted until 1 July 2020.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The neonicotinoids concerned are as follows:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Acetamiprid<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Imidacloprid<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Clothianidin<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Thiacloprid<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Thiamethoxam  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Two other substances with modes of action identical to those of the neonicotinoid family are also banned: flupyradifurone and sulfoxaflor.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.legifrance.gouv.fr\/jorf\/id\/JORFTEXT000042665456\">Law No. 2020-1578<\/a> of 14 December 2020 reintroduced limited derogations for the use of seeds treated with neonicotinoids until <strong>1 July 2023<\/strong>, as authorised under Article 53 of Regulation (EC) 1107\/2009, which provides that a Member State may <strong>authorise<\/strong> the use of a plant protection product that does <strong>not have marketing authorisation<\/strong>, for a maximum of <strong>120 days<\/strong>, for limited and controlled use, where a danger exists which cannot be contained by any other reasonable means.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.legifrance.gouv.fr\/download\/pdf?id=hbs9mp5-XF68jgbjPxIB6NVeMJTi2C06ic6UTBmB0po=\">The order of 5 February 2021<\/a> has therefore just been published in the JORF. It authorises, for a period of <strong>120 days<\/strong>, the use of sugar beet seeds treated with <strong>imidacloprid<\/strong> or <strong>thiamethoxam<\/strong>. Two plant protection products containing these substances are concerned.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The text specifies the conditions prohibiting the planting or replanting of bee-attracting crops after the use of these seeds, as well as mitigation and compensation measures for maize and rapeseed crops.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Phytocontrol laboratory supports you with the analysis of neonicotinoids in plant matrices under COFRAC accreditation (Scope No. 1-1904 available on the COFRAC website).<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Need technical, regulatory or pricing information?
