<\/p>\n\n

On 5 February 2020, the Council’s Permanent Representatives Committee (COREPER) confirmed the provisional agreement reached on 18 December 2019 with the European Parliament on the proposed revision of Directive 98\/83\/EC on the quality of water intended for human consumption.<\/p>\n\n

The draft updates water quality criteria and introduces a risk assessment.<\/p>\n\n

Requirements applicable to materials in contact with water have also been included in the text.<\/p>\n\n

New substances are included in the control plan, in particular the addition of endocrine disruptors and medicines (beta-oestradiol, nonylphenol, bisphenol A). These changes will be adopted one year after the directive enters into force.<\/p>\n\n

The Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) was due to vote on the compromise agreement on 18 February 2020, and the political agreement will be submitted to the \u201cEnvironment\u201d Council at its session on 5 March 2020.<\/p>\n\n

The directive will enter into force 20 days after its publication in the OJEU.<\/p>\n\n
